Coach Peter Bound was absolutely delighted with the performance of his under 11 squad as they played outstanding rugby to reach the National 7’s Final at Dunvant yesterday (Saturday 23rd).

They qualified from their pool with the following results: Pontypridd 2-2 draw, Pontypool 6-0 win, Pembrokeshire 1-0 win and Cynon Valley 2-0 win. The quarter final was a nail bitting 2-1 success over Llwchwr with extra time being required. No such drama in the semi’s as they scored a comfortable win by 3 tries to nil over Newport. Unfortunately the Final was a game too much and they lost 2-0 to an excellent Llanelli. 

Congratulations to the squad of: Ben Williams, Ben Edwards, Llyr Davies, Cameron Miguel, Jac Bradford, Steffan Castle, Carwyn Howells, James Williams, Joel Holmes and Luc Caines.

Because the season for a number of under 11 district players will not be completed until this Saturday (23rd May) I have decided to delay next seasons under 12 summer programme by a month; it will therefore start either the last week of June or the first week in July.

The under 16’s summer programme will kick off in the next couple of weeks once a date/day can be negotiated with Court Herbert. Further information will be posted on the website when available.

Next seasons training for district under 13 and 14’s gets under way at Court Herbert, Neath Sports Centre, on Tuesday 2nd June.

Both sessions will take place on the all weather pitch (trainers) with the under 13’s starting at 5pm and finishing by 6.15pm and the under 14’s starting at 6pm and finishing by 7.15pm.

Sessions in June are on Tuesday the 2nd/9th/16th and 23rd.

Sessions in July will be on Tuesday the 7th/14th/21st and 28th.

Sesions in August will be on Tuesday the 4th/11th and 18th.

The training and playing programme for the rest of the season will either be given out at training or posted on the website.

Neath schools under 11’s have selected the following squad for the National Tournament at Dunvant RFC on Saturday 23rd May:

Charlie Davies, Aled Cockwell, Dan Smith, Nathan Watkins, Reuben Morgan Williams, Gwydian Llyr, Jacob Evans, Nick Hurley, Nathan Lasda and Dylan Evans.

Players are requested to arrive at 10am.

The following boys have been selected as part of the West Wales squad that take on North Wales at Llanidloes RFC on Wednesday 13th May. Players are requested to be at Llanidloes RFC (playing fields) by 4.30pm for a 6pm koff. You are also required to bring the kit that you were supplied with against East Wales and appropriate clothing for the warm up.

Neath schools under 11’s are training this Thursday (7th May) 4pm at Court Herbert; all players are requested to attend for what will be a development session for the 7 aside district tournament that is coming up.

The District under 12’s and 13’s for the season just gone (2008-09) are asked to attend Llandarcy Academy of Sport on Thursday 7th May. The purpose of the evening is to put closure on last season and then give out a training plan for the forthcoming season (2009-10). There is limited space in the classrooms so could we make sure it is only one parent/guardian who accompanies each player.

The under 12 squad are asked to attend a meeting at 6pm which should be completed by 6.30pm.

The under 13 squad are asked to attend a meeting at 7pm which should be completed by 7.30pm.
